Hayward Vacation Rentals

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

Q: What watercraft are included at Big Bass Lake?

A: The canoe, swim raft and commercial 4-person paddleboat are included in your rental at no additional charge.

Q: What other watercraft are available?

A: A pontoon is available for rent for $650/week.   A fishing boat/motor is also available for rent for $300/week.  Neither the pontoon or boat/motor is large enough to pull any tubers or skiers.  They are strictly for fishing/leisure and it is the responsibility of the renter to ensure that a properly licensed operator is running any watercraft.

Q: What about other boat, higher-powered pontoon or jet-ski rentals?

A: See the ‘Links’ section of our website for more information on local places that rent watercraft.  They are usually much more expensive and also have additional deposits and delivery/pickup fees in some cases.  But tubing/skiing is allowed on Big Bass Lake.

Q: Is there a bait store, grocery store, etc. nearby?

A: Yes, for Big Bass Lake you can go to Sportsman’s Headquarters in Minong (about 5 miles away and they sell licenses also).   A full grocery store is across the street from the bait shop (in Minong).

A: There is also a Super Walmart in Hayward about 20 minutes away.

Q: How’s the fishing?

A: Fishing is usually great right from the dock.   See the website for more pics of fish we’ve caught during our stay!

Q: How’s the swimming?

A: Excellent, right from the dock.  Property has sandy bottom with very gradual depth – and crystal clear water of course (not muddy or dark mineral colors of some lakes in the area).  Big Bass Lake also has a public beach on the other side of the lake (very lightly used) and lots of vacant sandy lakeshore around the entire lake.

Q: What about tubing/jet-skiing?

A: This is allowed at Big Bass Lake.  We just ask that you be respectful and careful of other boaters in the area (which holds true on any lake).

Q: What about linens?

A: All bath and kitchen towels and sheets are provided. Towels are in the closets.  Sheets are clean and beds are made prior to your visit.

A:  We do not provide beach towels.  Please bring your own beach towels.

Q: What about pets?

A: Cats are not allowed.

A: Dogs are NOT allowed Memorial Day - Labor Day at Big Bass Lake. During other times of the year, dogs are allowed on the lower level only (which walks out to the lake – our lab loves it down there).  In addition to disposing of pet waste and keeping off all furniture, dogs are NOT allowed on the upper two levels of Big Bass Lake (there is white carpet on both those levels).

We also ask that you be respectful of the neighbors and do not let your pet roam, bark a lot, etc.  If you have a dog that likes to swim…this is the properties for you!  They’ll be waterlogged by the end of your stay….

Q: Is smoking allowed inside?

A: No, smoking is NOT allowed inside.

Q: Does the house have air conditioning?

A: Yes,  property does have central air.

In addition, in 2013 we installed an additional, high efficiency Fujitsu Air Source Heat Pump (with Remote Control).  This is installed in the Great Room/Kitchen Area (above the microwave) and provides a LOT of additional air conditioning capability during the hot Summer afternoons (since the many Great Room windows face the West).  It also provides very warm, quiet heat on the upper two levels in the Fall/Winter months (without having to run the LP furnace in the basement).

Q: Is there a grill available?

A: Yes, but all grilling must be done outside and the grill brought back in each night after it has cooled down.
